Norwegian Threads is an exhibition featuring the work of textile artist Lise Skjåk Bræk and painter Anne Langsholt Apaydinli. Both Norwegian women honor their cultural heritage through artistic efforts inspired by traditional folk patterns and costumes.
Bræk’s work innovatively celebrates the traditional bunad through her design of modern, exquisite dresses (festdrakter). She uses extraordinary fabrics and elaborate detail to create one-of-a-kind dresses worthy of gallery presentations.
Apaydinli is a Norwegian born painter who has lived a large part of her life in the USA. Her joyful paintings reflect her great love of Norwegian dress, nature and architecture.
The two artists have exhibited together in prestigious galleries several times before, and Norway House is thrilled to welcome them to Minnesota.
The exhibition included a live presentation of Bræk’s costumes at the Midtsommer Gala on June 18, 2015 and a gallery installation at Norway House.
