Create Your Own Primstav: A Journey Through Nordic Timekeeping

Join Nordic Roots educator Kari Tauring for a fascinating journey into the world of Primstavs—traditional Nordic calendar sticks that date back to the 1300s. Combining ancient land-based rituals with church and saint days introduced by Christianity, Primstavs served as essential tools for farmers and fishermen to track time and manage tasks throughout the year.

🌳 On the Summer Side of the Primstav, a tree marks April 14 to signify the start of the season, with other symbols representing mid-summer days, festivals, and practical tasks.

In this hands-on class, you’ll:

• Explore the history and cultural significance of Primstavs.

• Learn how Christianity influenced and preserved Nordic timekeeping.

Create your own Summer Side Primstav with symbols that resonate with your life.

Don’t miss this opportunity to blend history, folklore, and creativity while deepening your understanding of Nordic traditions.
