Viking Zoomorphic Knotwork (Pt. 3 of 3)

  • Norway House 913 East Franklin Avenue Minneapolis United States (map)

Note: This is a three-class series and ticket fee is for all three classes.

Anyone can draw! Celebrating small successes and couching our knotwork studies in historical context, together we will examine the artistic traditions of the late Viking age (c. 950 – 1125 CE), as represented by zoomorphic (animal – shaped) design. This 3-part class will cover the basic elements of Mammen, Ringerike and Urnes knot styles, informed by treasures such as the Greater Jelling Stone, the Heggen Weather Vane and Urnes Stave Church, respectively. Students should come equipped with drawing media of choice (pencils, pens, markers) as well as an 11x18” sketchbook. Additional materials will be provided by the instructor.
