Fireside Chat with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre

  • Norway House 913 East Franklin Avenue Minneapolis United States (map)

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre is set to visit Norway House to tour the campus and participate in a moderated discussion about Norwegian-American relations. Topics include the war in Ukraine, the climate, the transition toward clean energy, and how the global challenges we collectively face have brought Norway and the United States even closer.

The prime minister’s “Fireside Chat” will take place amid a busy time for the Norwegian government, with the results of local elections unfolding and the prime minister’s delegation participating in the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York. This will be the first time a sitting prime minister from Norway has visited Minnesota since Jens Stoltenberg’s press conference with Governor Pawlenty in 2008. While in Minnesota, His Excellency will also visit Camp Ripley in St. Cloud and St. Olaf College in Northfield.

The significance of Norway and Minnesota’s longstanding relationship has gained popular acknowledgment this year as the Minnesota National Guard Norwegian Reciprocal Troop Exchange (NOREX) celebrated 50 years. The anniversary marks the oldest American troop exchange, and celebrations earlier this year in St. Paul and Trondheim included Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, United States Senior Senator Amy Klobuchar, and Her Majesty Queen Sonja, among other dignitaries.

Mr. Gahr Støre will be joined in a moderated discussion by a yet-unnamed distinguished guest from Minnesota. The public may attend in person by RSVP on Eventbrite using the link below. Those without an RSVP may be turned away.
