The Younger Futhark runic alphabet is a sparse and lonely 16 symbols compared to the 24 of the Elder Futhark runic alphabet. I always avoided them as they lack the sense of community and joyfulness of the Elder. They started to change as the ancient Viking world was influenced by new cultures, a new religion, and a changing climate. During the upheaval of 2020, the Younger Futhark inspired me in my darkness and distress.
We will begin with a history of the runes from 100 CE through the present. We will discuss their misappropriation by white supremacist groups historically and in the world today. We will make their shapes with our bodies and sing their names and I will share from my new book about them.
