South Minneapolis historian Susan Hunter-Weir will lead a tour of the Pioneer & Soldiers Memorial Cemetery, the oldest in Minneapolis and resting place of veterans, abolitionists, and people who were formerly enslaved. The tour will focus on the immigrants who participated in this conflict and how their stories are interwoven with the greater story of the Civil War and the abolition of slavery.
We will meet at the caretaker's cottage, in the middle of the cemetery. After the tour, you are invited to Norway House for a day of free programming on the Civil War and the contributions of people from Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Since we will be walking and the ground is uneven, please dress accordingly.
