Discover the art of Viking Knit, an ancient wire-weaving technique found in Viking-era artifacts. Led by renowned handcraft instructor Melba Granlund, this hands-on class invites you to explore the history and cultural significance of this intricate craft while creating your own one-of-a-kind bracelet.


This workshop is part of Vibrant Traditions: Scandinavian Weaving in the Midwest, a special exhibit celebrating the legacy of Scandinavian textile and fiber arts in the Midwest. Class participants will have complimentary access to the exhibit, which will be held in the Joan & Walter Mondale Galleri, where the class takes place.

• Expert-led instruction in the Viking Knit technique to create your own bracelet.

• Complimentary access to the Vibrant Traditions exhibit, curated by the Weavers Guild of Minnesota.

• A 30-minute lunch break to recharge and socialize.🎒 What to Bring:

• Jewelry-making tools (some available to borrow from the instructor).

• Paper and pen/pencil for notes.

• Brown bag lunch or purchase food at the Norway House Kaffe Bar.



💡 About Your Instructor:

Melba Granlund is a dedicated weaver and handcraft instructor with expertise in preserving Scandinavian folk art traditions. Her studies span institutions such as the Weavers Guild of Minnesota, Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, and prestigious craft schools in Sweden and Norway. She combines hands-on techniques with a deep understanding of their historical significance.

General Registration: $80

Norway House Members: $75

Materials Fee: $15 (payable to the instructor), covering all materials for one bracelet, with additional materials available for purchase.
