As we prepare for the magic of the 10th Anniversary of Gingerbread Wonderland, we’re thrilled to bring back Community Build Days—a heartwarming opportunity to roll up your sleeves and contribute your creativity to our beloved exhibit. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned baker, join us to build your own gingerbread creation and connect with others along the way!

Voices Weaving Stories: Marcie R. Rendon
Marcie R. Rendon is an acclaimed author and playwright celebrated for her powerful storytelling rooted in her Indigenous heritage. A member of the White Earth Nation, she has written several notable works, including the award-winning novel Girl Gone Missing and the compelling mystery series featuring Cash Blackbear. Her writing explores themes of identity, resilience, and the complexities of contemporary Indigenous life, often weaving personal and cultural narratives into her stories.
In her upcoming free talk at Norway House, Rendon will share insights from her literary journey, discuss the importance of representation in storytelling, and explore the intersection of culture and creativity. Attendees can look forward to an engaging conversation highlighting her experiences as a Native author and the significance of her work in today’s literary landscape. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Make a Recycled Gnome - The Lefse Gnome - Sold out
Step into the whimsical world of Norwegian folklore and sustainable crafting with Lynn Hjelmen! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll bring to life a charming gnome dedicated to the art of lefse making. The mateials used are recycled; the end result is charming, everything you need is provided in the class.
Constitution Day at Norway House
Celebrate the shared history of the world’s two oldest democratic constitutions, the US and Norway.
Featured speakers and panelists will offer reflections on civic engagement, constitutional principles, and the electoral process.
Pioneer & Soldiers Memorial Cemetery Tour - Norwegian Civil War Veterans - Sold out
South Minneapolis historian Susan Hunter-Weir will lead a tour of the Pioneer & Soldiers Memorial Cemetery, the oldest in Minneapolis and resting place of veterans, abolitionists, and people who were formerly enslaved. The walk will focus on the immigrants who participated in this conflict and how their stories are interwoven with the greater story of the Civil War and the abolition of slavery.
Back-to-School Fall Kickoff
The most koselig of seasons is here and many of us are heading back to school. Believing that learning should be a fun lifelong experience, Norway House is partnering with Mindekirken’s Norwegian Language and Culture Program to showcase many of the learning opportunities and other programs available at Norway Block all throughout the year.
Minnesota Twins: Norwegian Heritage Night at Target Field
Prepare to experience the richness of Norwegian heritage as we celebrate the lively essence of Norwegian culture! Join us for “Norwegian Heritage Night” at Target Field on Sunday, August 25, as the Twins take on the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:10 p.m.
This special “Norwegian Heritage Night” ticket package includes your ticket to the game plus an exclusive Norwegian Night Twins hat! The night will also include an honorary first pitch by a distinguished member of the Norwegian Community and more!

Spring Grove Expo at Norway House
Peruse displays from Giants of the Earth, comic strip characters Han Ola og Han Per, and other Spring Grove organizations and destinations, and see some of the stories from the Giants Oral Histories Project.
Mindekirken Tuesday Open House: Cookbooks and Quilts Can Be Family History Too
Our Spring Grove friends join the community at our neighbor Mindeirken for a tour of the historic church and to stay for lunch and the program of the week:
Mary Rosendahl—food scientist, quilter, and certified autobiography instructor. Mary enjoys marrying her interests in food and quilting with family history to help others create family keepsakes.
Krumkake with the Flavors of Spring
Crispy, delicate krumkake cookies are usually associated with Christmas. However, you can enjoy krumkake all year long! By switching up the flavors, we can make krumkake for any occasion. In this spring-themed class, we'll make strawberry cardamom krumkake and lemon lavender krumkake. We'll cover the basics in this hands-on class, but most of our time will be spent making cookies, so all skill levels are welcome! Bring an apron and a container so you can take home cookies.
Heidi Eger is perhaps best known as our “Lefse Guru” and also runs a lamb farm near Spring Grove which will provide the meat for the fårikål (lamb in cabbage) at our Spring Dinner: An Evening to Celebrate Spring Grove.

Minnesota Wild Norwegian Community Celebration
We're having a Norwegian Community Celebration on Thursday, April 18 when the Wild take on the Seattle Kraken. Ticket pack offer includes a Minnesota Wild Norwegian scarf. A portion of each ticket pack sold will benefit the Norway House.
Mindekirken Tuesday Open House: 7th Inning Stretch
Join our dear friends at Mindekirken for their weekly lunch and lecture program, featuring Steve Larson—a public speaker and entertainer who grew up in Thief River Falls, MN, graduated from Bemidji State University, and currently lives in Tonka Bay on Lake Minnetonka. He was a sportscaster for 10 years, owned a photography studio for 33 years in Grafton, ND, and portrayed Buddy Holly in the group Rock ’N Roll Heaven. Steve has been married to his high school sweetheart for 49 years and has three children along with eight grandchildren.
Steve will give a unique, nostalgic audio/visual presentation where “cardboard comes to life” through stories and songs, utilizing Steve’s extensive sports card collection. Join us for an entertaining trip down “memory lane” emphasizing baseball, while embracing many facets of life. Wear your favorite team’s baseball gear for TOH!!!

ONLINE: Unraveling the Knot: Shared and Divergent Designs in Celtic and Viking Knotwork
In this seminar and discussion, teaching artist Jeanine Malec will highlight the overlapping motifs as well as unique characteristics that unite and define these two fascinating historical traditions in knotwork and design. Rounding out our panel, Carstens Smith, Director of Education at Norway House and Steve Griffith, Education Chair and history instructor at Celtic Junction will share their insights on the overlapping histories between Norway and Ireland and how they intersect in America.

Decorate Påskris (Easter Switch) with Kari Tauring
Learn about the Nordic Easter tradition of decorating pussy willow switches. When Christianity came to rural Norway, Finland, and Sweden around 1200 A.D., the ancient land-based traditions were kept in families and blended with the new church practices.
Loppet World Cup Viewing Party
The world’s best athletes in cross-country skiing will race in the first World Cup race to be held on U.S. soil in twenty years.

Santa Lucia Pageant at Mindekirken
A Scandinavian tradition that goes back hundreds of years featuring children pre-k through high school. The pageant is part of the December 10 service.
An Evening with Lisa Stokke
A dazzling musical adventure for the holidays with the talented Norwegian actress and singer Lisa Stokke. Enjoy Gingerbread Wonderland before the show, and delight in the iconic voice that originated the role of Sophie in Mamma Mia! and provided the Norwegian voice of Elsa in Frozen and Frozen II!
Santa Lucia Rehearsals Begin
Mindekirken invites children of all ages - pre-K through high school - to participate in our annual Santa Lucia Pageant.
Children will participate in a Scandinavian tradition that goes back hundreds of years, while learning how to sing and perform as an ensemble with other children. Santa Lucia is a great way of introducing another language to children, with songs and texts in both Norwegian and English. No Norwegian experience is necessary.
Rehearsals begin on Sunday, November 5 from 1:00-2:45 pm, and continue each Sunday until the pageant on December 10 during the 11am service.
Participation is free.
